Equipment

  • 1 9" x 13" baking dish or pan
  • 1 small mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup red wine Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon work wonderfully
  • 1 cup dark chocolate pieces or chips
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract because we’re fancy

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish—sticky chocolate is not the vibe.
  • Pour the red wine into the dish. Swoon at the aroma.
  • Sprinkle the dark chocolate pieces over the wine. This is already looking irresistible.
  • Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the chocolate and wine layer.
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix—it’s like liquid gold, really.
  • In a small bowl, mix the sugar and vanilla extract together, then sprinkle this over the top.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is set and the inside is molten and gooey. Serve warm, perhaps with a glass of the same red wine. Cheers!
