Equipment

  • 1 9" x 13" baking dish or pan

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries or frozen, thawed
  • 1 box purple velvet cake mix substitute red velvet if needed and add purple food coloring
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon for extra depth
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Spread the blackberries evenly across the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle sugar and vanilla extract over the berries to give them a little extra sweetness.
  • In a bowl, combine the purple velvet cake mix, baking powder, and salt. Pour the milk into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Pour the cake batter over the blackberries. Don’t worry about perfection—this is a dump cake after all!
  • Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly. You want that middle to still be a little gooey, trust me.
